Every Brilliant Thing discusses adult themes including depression and suicide,
not recommended for those under 14
Following sold-out runs in London and New York and a special performance on HBO, Three Bone Theatre is proud to present the Charlotte premiere of Every Brilliant Thing.
The little girl is six years old. Mom’s in hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So the child starts to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for:
1. Ice cream
2. Water fights
3. Staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV
4. The color yellow
5. Things with stripes
And she leaves it on her mom’s pillow in the hopes of making her feel better. The list takes on a life of its own as the little girl grows up and faces her own struggles with mental illness. Every Brilliant Thing is more than just a play about depression, it’s a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience about the lengths we will go to for those we love.
In this remarkable one-woman show, award-winning comedienne Tania Kelly enlists the audience as co-conspirators in the plot to celebrate life and turns them into members of an ensemble that creates the evening's story. This production is directed by Robin Tynes, Founding Artistic Director of Three Bone Theatre.
“EVERY BRILLIANT THING finds a perfect balance between conveying the struggles of life, and celebrating all that is sweet in it.” —The Independent (London)
